I have worked in the building industry for over 20 years. I started as a building science consultant helping builders understand the intricacies of their buildings related to energy efficiency, safety, and durability. As a HERS rater my job was to model the energy usage and forecast the impacts for various energy improvement strategies of the construction process. I spent many years walking the job sites of production builders identifying potential construction deficiencies within the construction process.

In 2005 I became a home energy auditor and worked with homeowners helping them understand how their houses worked and what they could do to save energy and help their homes become more energy efficient and comfortable. I have conducted many blower door tests and infrared scans identifying issues within the existing housing stock of Minnesota. I became very familiar with old houses and their construction.

In 2008 after the housing bubble collapsed, I started a company called SustainMax Home Performance. We specialized in energy efficient remodeling. In 2013 I became a BPI (Building Performance Institute) certified Building Analyst and continued with my existing home energy diagnostic and remodeling career.

In 2015 my wife and I started having children and my time became more valuable to me and my family. We love adventuring and spending time at the rivers and lakes of Minnesota. Our very favorite things are floating down the river in our canoe and going on winter ski trips as a family.

I built my business for several years and held 8 employees before selling my company SustainMax in 2016 to another contractor.

My building science experience and my love of woodshop and building things has honed my skills over the years. I love to help homeowners to bring their visions to life. I get a great sense of pride and joy when I finish a beautiful project.
